The Snow Queen is still very much in control in Storybrooke. Actress Elizabeth Mitchell revealed that there is much more coming for the popular character on the upcoming episodes of “Once Upon a Time,” according to Wetpaint Entertainment on November 15. The Snow Queen is currently the main antagonist of the first half of the fourth season of the popular show, and is manipulating Emma Swan with her powerful magic. The next episode, “Fall,” will air on Sunday, November 30 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
The series is taking one week off after airing a two hour episode jam packed with plot twists and magical drama. Mitchell confirmed that the character is “on the path to get what she needs” and her agenda is her own. The Snow Queen is “very calm” because she truly believes everything will work out the way she wants. The character has evolved from the relatively unknown ice cream parlor owner in Storybrooke to the terrifying magic mirror owner who can freeze people’s hearts forever.
Mitchell mentioned that she has a specific way to prepare for her scenes as the sinister character, in which she questions the characters own motives. The actress constantly asks herself what would make the Snow Queen do these things or make certain choices, in order to get into character before she delivers the lines. Mitchell also teased that her character’s backstory get more intricate with every passing episode, and the ones leading to the midseason finale are no exception.
According to IGN.com on November 15, Mitchell expected her character’s major episode to be “The Snow Queen,” which aired last week. However, “Smash the Mirror,” the two part episode from Sunday night, features much more about The Snow Queen’s plan. Previous episodes have explored her upbringing in Arendelle and her sisters, but her future with Emma Swan is still up in the air.
The actress explained how she received the script for the episode after the two parter and realized “there’s so much more to the story.” Fans will be happy to learn that many “questions will be answered” and the answers will be shown instead of explained with dialogue. Mitchell said that one of her favorite thing about television is that they can “show it, you don’t have us tell it,” which adds to the drama of the series.
The new episode was directed by Mario Van Peebles and written by Jane Espenson. There are only three more episodes until the midseason finale during the second week in December. The remaining episodes in the season will resume on ABC in March 2015. The midseason finale and the midseason premiere, entitled “Darkness on the Edge of Town,” were both written by Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz.

Sorry for posting about this so late! I’ve been out of town & then there’s my crazy work schedule.
EW can exclusively reveal Mitchell has joined the cast of ABC’s Once Upon a Time for a season 4 arc as part of the much-anticipated Frozen-inspired storyline. The move marks Mitchell’s return to ABC, where she became a fan favorite on Lost. Since then, she’s starred in ABC’s V and was most recently on NBC’s Revolution. Only this time, we hear Mitchell might be playing a villainous character.
Mitchell’s Once Upon role isn’t being revealed yet, but we’re told she is “possibly malevolent” with ties to royal Frozen sisters Anna (newcomer Elizabeth Lail) and Elsa (Fringe familiar Georgina Haig) as well as to Storybrooke and Arendelle. The events in Once Upon are expected to take place after the events in last year’s animated Disney hit. Let the speculation begin!
